Podcast Topic(s)
This episode — another in which Withstand the Fury* Dragon joins midway, leaving Harmony Dragon, Golem Dragon, and Draxenath to kick the conversation off — jumps between such a multitude of topics that the following list is almost assuredly incomplete. However, in roughly this order, the podcast crew discuss Ultima Dragons memberships and long out-of-use email addresses, vent their ongoing disappointment with Shroud of the Avatar, and talk a bit about family histories and the merits of blue collar work.
Voice acting and game soundtracks also come up, as do real-time strategy (RTS) games (including, in particular, Kohan II: Kings of War). The excellent Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning also comes up for discussion for a bit, because of course it would. And then the topic lurches rather suddenly to Windows updates and attendant woes therewith, as well as Steam and game client updates…and attendant woes therewith.
As things wind down, we also talk about patch notes, documentation, programming languages, and the distinction between software maintenance and bug-fixing. About the last topic that gets covered is the difference between fan-made patches and official, developer-made patches; why is it that the fans often do better with these than the studios that made the games?
* Yes, that’s actually what the WtF (note the lowercase ‘t’) in WtF Dragon stands for. This, too, is a subject of discussion in this episode.
