This episode begins with WtF Dragon and Golem Dragon discussing a some of the first screenshots, released by Catnip Games, of the lands that will form the setting of Shroud of the Avatar’s second episode. Suffice it to say: the images are something of a letdown.
However, the discussion quickly moves on to happier topics, like the recently-released Sonic the Hedgehog movie and its impressive box office performance; also discussed is Birds of Prey’s comparatively underwhelming box office run, and the way this imbalance has stoked a bit of online frustration; for some people, it would seem that everything has to be political; this observation leads into a brief discussion about Tim Sweeney of Epic Games and his remarks about how game developers should keep overt political messaging out of their games.
The newest Star Trek series, Picard, also merits some discussion, although this morphs into a commentary on the dark turn in entertainment that we’ve been seeing over the last few years. A parallel could perhaps be drawn with the 1970s; science fiction, in particular, during that time was quite grim and/or apocalyptic in its themes, and it was against this backdrop that George Lucas set up Star Wars as a more hopeful fairy tale, a rebellion against doom and gloom.
And hey, apparently the PlayStation 5 is going to cost Sony a fair bit of money to produce; the per-unit production cost is rather high. This will probably lead Sony to sell consoles at a loss, the idea then being to recoup that money in game and service sales…which, to be fair, worked out well enough for Microsoft.
And, after Draxenath leads WtF Dragon to realize that Dauntless has been released for the Nintendo Switch, the discussion ends with a caution against the open use of hotel WiFi, or any free WiFi hotspot…at least without benefit of a VPN.
