Podcast Topic(s)

This episode continues the discussion that began a couple weeks back, and begins with Draxenath, Golem Dragon, and Dr. Cat discussing Shin Megami Tensie 4; Draxenath draws some interesting parallels between that game and series and the Pokemon games. This, in turn, rolls over into a discussion of Draxenath’s own project, Record of the Dragon Goddess and her struggles to make each character feel different and unique. The subject of bard characters using music to conjure different magical effects comes up, which leads in turn to a discussion of a music-based weapon that one of the characters in Warframe uses. Which, in turn, reminds Dr. Cat of a Lindsey Stirling music video.

Dr. Cat then announces that the Furcadia web client has been made accessible to all and sundry. He notes that it has not yet been wrapped up to make a formal app out of it, but it is accessible and playable online at least. This leads to some additional discussion about Furcadia and game art; at one point, Dr. Cat and Draxenath were even swapping sketches and art concepts in the Discord server’s chat channel.

There’s also a brief discussion about game sales being up during the ongoing pandemic and its attendant lockdowns, with the latest Animal Crossing game racking up some truly impressive sales on the Nintendo Switch (although it has since been knocked out of the “top selling” spot by Minecraft Dungeons).

And then, Gallara Dragon joins the podcast, turning in a rare appearance. And with her, several other recurring voices also sign on.

From there, the discussion goes in all sorts of directions: we discuss kosher bacon, corn allergies, Coca Cola (Dr. Cat helps WtF Dragon understand why he is not, in fact, crazy, and that yes, Coca Cola that has been bottled in glass does in fact taste different), honey, exercise and the challenges of keeping fit during lockdown, and the challenges of maintaining social distancing in general. Facemasks, online Scouting and remote learning, quarantine-respecting birthday celebrations, parenting challenges, and even some of the cybersecurity issues that have attended many more people working from home also get covered.

But the episode does end on a gaming topic, with Sir Klaus Dragon discussing Dragon Quest 11 — and his enjoyment thereof — at some length.
