This episode — which explicity tries to avoid any political discussions, since it is likely that many of you listening are in need of a bit of respite from the realm of politics right about now — begins with a very brief discussion about Ultima Online, its recently-announced New Legacy shard, and the coming addition of a new feature to the game: dynamic seasonal changes. This hasn’t been done in too many games, certainly not in many Ultima titles…although it is pointed out that Ultima 5 had changing seasons.
However, the conversation quickly gets derailed into a discussion of different candies, wired and wireless headsets, USB keyboards versus PS/2 keyboards (and how PS/2 has way less latency than USB), and old games with weird keyboard control schemes. Actually, we stay on the topic of keyboards for a goodly while, before coming back to Ultima Online for a bit.
But that topic is not long for this episode, and we soon fall off into a lengthy discussion about Star Trek, how Voyager inspired the remake of Battlestar Galactica, which Trek series is best, and suchlike. And because that wasn’t nerdy enough, we then get into a very detailed discussion about warp theory and how it changed over time within the Trek canon.
And then we talk a bit about about sewage, because why not?
One last-ditch attempt to return to the topic of Ultima Online fails; we end up discussing Hurricane Zeta and sharing hurricane experience stories, winter experience stories. driving stories, and stories from the ongoing pandemic. The episode ends with us comparing notes about various games that we’ve found scary — fitting, really, given that we recorded just prior to Halloween.
