Podcast Topic(s)

This week, I thought I’d resurrect — and bring to the podcast audience — an interview that I did with Derek Brinkmann and Tim Cotten several years ago.

At the time, Brinkmann and Cotten had just started Citadel Studios, and were working on their first game. You know it now as Legends of Aria, though at the time it was called Shards (or Shards Online).

Yes, I know I misstate this in the intro. Mea culpa!

While much of the discussion focuses on Shards, the technology underpinning it, and the design philosophy informing it, the conversation does also touch on Ultima Online (Brinkmann, Cotten, and several others working at Citadel Studios at the time were Ultima Online veterans).

A partial transcript of the interview can be found at the Ultima Codex.
